Hardy to minus 35ÂșC. The edible fruits ripen in July. Impressive white blossom give way to purple fruits at the end of the season and leaves become golden coloured. The tree makes an excellent choice for a small garden. They are undemanding as to soil type, preferring average soil/moisture, can flourish in sun to part-shade. Their wispy branches can be successfully tucked into mixed flower borders or between or under larger trees. Fruit is eaten raw or cooked and has a sweet flavour with a hint of apple and almond; used in pies, preserves, or dried and used like raisins. The flowers are pollinated by bees and midges. Self-fertile.
